How to Tell a Story Through Journaling
Journaling is more than decorating a page.
For me, every journal spread begins with a story.
When I sit down to create, I don't start by asking which products I want to use. Instead, I ask myself:
What kind of world do I want to build?
A peaceful garden?
A magical kingdom?
A forgotten castle?
An enchanted forest?
An ocean adventure?
The supplies are simply the tools that help bring that story to life.
🌿 Start with an Idea
Every spread begins with a simple concept.
Sometimes it's inspired by a collection, a color palette, a character, or even a single decorative element that catches my attention.
Having a theme helps all the elements work together naturally and creates a more cohesive page.
🏰 Build the World
Before adding characters or small details, I create the environment where the story will take place.
The background sets the mood and atmosphere.
A castle creates a completely different feeling than a flower garden.
A mysterious forest tells a different story than a peaceful countryside village.
The background becomes the foundation of everything that follows.
🌸 Create a Decorative Frame
One of my favorite techniques is framing the page.
By surrounding the composition with flowers, foliage, decorative tapes, and layered elements, I create a window into the scene.
This naturally draws the eye toward the center while adding depth and visual interest.
👗 Add the Main Character
Every story needs a focal point.
Once the environment is established, I add the main character or central element that brings the scene to life.
This could be:
• A person
• An animal
• A building
• A magical object
The focal point becomes the heart of the composition.
✨ Layer for Depth
This is where the magic happens.
Birds, flowers, pathways, gates, carts, trees, and architectural elements help transform a flat page into a living scene.
Each layer adds depth and helps guide the viewer through the story.
The goal isn't to fill every empty space.
The goal is to make the scene feel alive.
🎨 Let the Story Evolve
One of the most enjoyable parts of journaling is that the final result is often different from the original idea.
As new elements are added, the story naturally develops and grows.
Sometimes the most beautiful pages are created by simply following your creativity and allowing the composition to evolve naturally.
💜 There Is No Right or Wrong Way
Every journaler sees something different.
The same collection can become:
• A romantic garden
• A medieval village
• A fantasy kingdom
• A magical adventure
That's what makes journaling so special.
Start with a simple idea, trust your imagination, and let the story unfold one element at a time.

In the video below, you can see how a blank page is gradually transformed into a complete journal scene using layered PET tapes, decorative flowers, architectural elements, and a focal character.
